A Double Pole (DP) switch is a switch that control's two circuits at the same time. In term of residential switching, this normally means it switch's the live and neutral at the same time. In most circumstances within the home/office a DP Switch's is used when a ring main is involved. you can use a DP switch's above the counter to switch off any appliances below the countertop. When you use a Double Pole switch’s you are able to isolate both the live and neutrall, meaning there is no current passing through the circuit. This makes it much safer.
